Just curious what's going on

That domain (.org) was owned by one of the techs who is no longer with us.  He must have closed down the site registration.  I've sent a message to our site owner and other tech to see if we can put up a pre-reg on our .net domain.  I'll let you know.

I have a Y! button/link on my website which I'll update when Y!2.0 is released. Alas as you know lyiint my poor Boxer & Rice has never been really popular. So it probably won't help much. But it's all i can do.

Thank you so much! Even if your site is small, putting a button up for us is a very kind thing for you to do.  <3  It's really appreciated.

But you kept the domain name registered, I hope? Wait, instead of hoping, I checked...seems it's still registered until 2020, great. Cancelling the servers to save money makes a lot of sense, but how about getting a cheapo hosting package for the meantime - they're some starting at 0.99 per month, or so, and they'd still be enough to host the simple, single notice page (although not much more). Again, sorry for not letting go of the issue, I hope I'm not annoying you. ^_^;

You're not being a bother at all.  Yes, the domain name is registered, but I'm afraid I'm lost on the technical end after that.  I'm not sure why our head tech put stuff on the .org domain.  There's probably some reason, but you'd have to ask him.  We're going to be talking in the meeting  about getting hosting packages so we can get something up, even if it's something basic we can improve on as we go.

Misc Discussion / Re: The Main Site

I was just wondering, how much did the hacker destroy?

The site has been down for a very long time, so I was getting really worried. I hope I'm not bothering you guys too much.

No bother at all.  Here's what I know so far:
As of now, we will be experiencing a long downtime. We’ve spoken to the techs who have been trying their best to fix what the hacker broke and the bad news is that the hacker managed to break their way in to the server and corrupt/delete large portions of the database. Y-gallery is nothing more than an empty page and the database has been lost. This means all information and data that everyone has uploaded over the years has been lost.

We will be pushing forward with our plans to release version 2.0 to you as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE: no confidential information was leaked that we know of. This appears to just be an attack on y-gallery as a whole and not on its users.  Please realize that our techs are graciously doing this on their own free time when they’re not at their real life jobs. They are doing all this work voluntarily without pay so it may take some time.  Right now I have no concrete date of when yG2 will be online. As soon as I know more, I’ll be sure to update here as well as on our tumblr and twitter.

Until then, please feel free keep in touch and share your works here. You’re also welcome to email me at and I’ll do my best to answer any questions or just chat.

Ah, I see. But would it be possible to have a temporary redirect from> set through the domain administration with the hosting company? I'm sorry to keep harping on regarding this issue, I'm just worried that a lot of users are confused right now and not finding their way to the announcements. ^_^;

As far as I understand it, there is nothing at, so we can't redirect from there.  I think because Spiral cancelled the servers so we wouldn't have to keep paying for something we can't use, at least until we're ready to relaunch.  :(

Would it also be possible to put a notice up on linking people to
The new notice page looks good! (There's a typo, though - it should read "its entire core", not "it's entire core". (And, I guess, technically "Heavy Maintenance" shouldn't be capitalized)).

And, yeah, it would be important that all of the various iterations of the site name redirect to it, since people might still have them in their bookmarks. The bookmark I've been using, for example, links to, and still gets the time-out error.

There is no now, so I can't post anything at that url.  I will be posting the new domain name on the tumblr and twitter too as well as here.

Here it is guys:  :)   I'll be updating the tumblr and twitter with this link as well, but I'm waiting until after we have our meeting tomorrow in case there's other news to share.

Hey there!

It's nice to meet you, though I wish it were through better circumstances. Been a member myself since the Snover days too (around 10 years! OMG has it really been that long??) It's really beyond awful that a lot of people lost everything, hopefully artists will re-post some of their prior artwork, etc. Fortunately I saved backups of my work...I intend to re-post mine, as well as keep doing new things going forward.

If there's any silver lining in this mess, hopefully friends will use this forum to reconnect. People might make new friends through here too, ahead of the YG2.0 launch.

Take care,

I know, I feel so old. LOL  I was on the gallery very soon after it went online and been there ever since.  I look forward to seeing your work when we get yG2 up and running, but feel free to post some here too if you like. :D

Another oldbie here, though you've got me beat. I think I joined maybe a few months or almost a year after y!'s inception, it's hard to remember at this point (and also with the site deaded). To really give a good guestimation of how long I've been around, back when Sheezyart existed and allowed adult content, I was familiar with a helluva lot of artists who went on to become mods and very notable members of y!gal once it got rolling. Just thinking about how bloody long ago that was makes me feel old as heck. Yikes.

I'm not a tech, so I've never seen the back end of the site, but the content and database files apparently were all over the place.  The coding that Snover put in place was ages old and he had his own methods, which our new techs were trying to sort out.  As you can imagine there are lines and lines and lines of coding they had to look through and from what I was told, some of it was repeated for some reason and when they tried to remove the duplications or fiddle too much with the old code, the site would freak out and stuff wouldn't work anymore.  The techs had told me it was a nightmare.

As for backups, we did have one, which we thought we'd be able to use, but it seems the hacker overwrote it or scrambled it and it was totally unrecoverable. :(

I think I heard too about y! having all sort of proprietary weirdness and an eldritch abomination in coding form that was giving the techs all kinds of grief. Being a technician (more oriented towards working w physical stuff; computers, printers, peripherals, etc), I know coming behind other tech's and the mysterious methods to their madness induces a strong desire to set fire to things. More power to the tech peeps for working hard to make sense of whatever roots Snover laid down.

Also, that hacker can eat a whole bag of musty dicks. Just a whole ton. Raw.

That's what we're hoping too.  That people can keep connected, especially people who were doing commissions and only knew the other persons y-gallery name.

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to wade through all the old code on y-g.  I really felt bad when the techs were telling me how much they felt like pulling out their hair over it.

Thank you, penbrydd for making the new skin.  I'm sure there are many who will find it useful.  :)
